UK Police to Probe Malta-Linked Andrew Misconduct Claim
UK Police Braced for Malta-Linked Andrew Misconduct Probe
In the heart of Valletta, the sun casts a warm glow on the Grandmaster’s Palace. But the tranquility is set to be disrupted as UK police prepare to probe an allegation of sexual misconduct against Prince Andrew, linked to a Maltese woman’s testimony.
From Malta to London: The Allegation Unfolds
In the bustling streets of Sliema, a Maltese woman, now in her 30s, has alleged that she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew at the age of 17. The claim, made to the BBC’s Panorama, has across the Atlantic, drawing the attention of UK police.
The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, alleges that she was trafficked to London by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. She claims that she was forced to have sex with Andrew at Maxwell’s London townhouse in 2001, when she was just 17 years old.
UK Police: Ready for the Investigation
Following the allegation, UK’s Metropolitan Police has confirmed that it is ready to investigate the claims, should the woman file a formal complaint. The force, which has previously declined to comment on the case due to ongoing legal proceedings in the US, has now indicated a change in stance.
“Of course, the MPS would assess any allegations—no matter who made them, no matter against whom—we will always consider whether an investigation is proportionate,” a spokesperson for the Met said.
Malta’s Role: Awaiting the Next Move
Back in Malta, the government has been tight-lipped about the allegation. While the Foreign Affairs Ministry has confirmed that it is aware of the claims, it has declined to comment further, stating that it is a matter for the UK authorities.
Locals, however, are abuzz with the news. “It’s incredible to think that something like this could have happened right here in Malta,” said Joe, a Sliema resident. “I hope the truth comes out, no matter where it leads.”
As the sun sets on the Grandmaster’s Palace, the question remains: will the woman come forward with a formal complaint, and will UK police launch a full-scale investigation into the allegations?
