Zejtun’s Triq il-Gudja Road Project Completed
Triq il-Gudja Road Project Completed: A Smooth Ride Ahead for Zejtun Residents
ZEJTUN, MALTA – The sound of construction has finally given way to the hum of traffic on Triq il-Gudja, as the long-awaited road project in Zejtun has reached its conclusion. After months of lane closures and detours, residents and commuters can now enjoy a smoother, safer ride through this bustling town.
From Potholes to Smooth Sailing
Triq il-Gudja, a major thoroughfare connecting Zejtun to other towns and the rest of Malta, was in dire need of an overhaul. Potholes, uneven surfaces, and inadequate drainage had turned this vital artery into a bumpy, treacherous journey. The Malta Road Authority (MRA) stepped in, investing €1.5 million to transform this road into a model of modern infrastructure.
The project, which kicked off in late 2020, saw the complete reconstruction of the road surface, the installation of new drainage systems, and the upgrade of street lighting. The works also included the construction of a new roundabout at the junction with Triq l-Imqabba, aimed at improving traffic flow and safety.
Local Businesses Thrive Again
While the construction works posed temporary inconveniences, many local businesses along Triq il-Gudja are now breathing a sigh of relief. Shop owners like Mario, who runs a popular pastizzeria, saw a drop in customers during the roadworks. “It was tough,” he admits, “but now that the road is finally done, we’re seeing our usual crowd coming back.”
The improved road surface and enhanced street lighting have not only made it safer and more pleasant for pedestrians but have also given a boost to local commerce. With the road now open, businesses are optimistic about the upcoming summer season, expecting an increase in footfall from both locals and tourists.
: More Green Spaces and Pedestrian-friendly Zones
With the road project concluded, the Zejtun Local Council is now turning its attention to further enhancing the town’s infrastructure. Plans are underway to create more green spaces and pedestrian-friendly zones along Triq il-Gudja, aiming to make the street not just a thoroughfare, but a vibrant, inviting public space.
Mayor of Zejtun, Josè Caruana, expresses his satisfaction with the completed project and his vision for the future: “We’ve addressed the urgent need to improve our roads, and now we’re looking forward to making Triq il-Gudja a greener, more pedestrian-friendly street. We want our town to be a place where people can live, work, and enjoy a high quality of life.”
As the sun sets on the Triq il-Gudja road project, Zejtun residents can look forward to a smoother, safer ride and a more inviting streetscape. The town is ready to welcome visitors and locals alike, eager to show off its newly refurbished heart.
