Heroin Haul: Man Arrested After €13,000 Stash Seized in Ħamrun

In a quiet residential street off Triq San Pawl in Ħamrun, police officers made a startling discovery this week. Hidden away in a property, they found a stash of heroin with an estimated street value of €13,000. The bust has through the close-knit community, leaving residents stunned and authorities vowing to crack down on drug-related crime.

From Door-to-Door to Drug Bust

It was during a routine door-to-door enquiry that officers from the Ħamrun Police Station stumbled upon the illicit stash. The operation, part of an ongoing effort to tackle drug trafficking in the area, led them to a property where their suspicions were aroused. A subsequent search of the premises yielded the substantial heroin haul, weighing in at just over a kilogram.

Man in Custody as Investigation Continues

Following the discovery, a 37-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody. The suspect, a local resident, is being questioned about his involvement in the drug trade. Police have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests as they continue to unravel the web of criminal activity.

Superintendent Mario Christofaro, leading the investigation, stated, “This seizure is a significant blow to the local drug trade. We’re sending a clear message to those involved in such activities – we will not tolerate it, and we will continue to disrupt your operations.”

Residents of Ħamrun have expressed their relief and support for the police action. Maria, a long-time resident who wished to remain anonymous, commented, “It’s frightening to think something like this was happening right under our noses. But I’m glad the police are on top of it. We want our streets to be safe for our children.”

As the investigation continues, police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their enquiries. Anyone with information is urged to contact Ħamrun Police Station on 21242000 or the 119 emergency number.
