Heroin Bust: Man Arrested in Ħamrun
Heroin Bust: Man Arrested After €13,000 Worth of Drugs Found in Ħamrun
In an early morning raid, police swooped down on a Ħamrun apartment block, seizing a significant amount of heroin with an estimated street value of €13,000. The bust resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old man, who is now being held at the Floriana Police Station for questioning.
From Tip-Off to Arrest
The operation was launched following a tip-off from the public, highlighting the crucial role residents play in helping law enforcement combat drug-related crimes. A team of officers from the Drugs Unit, assisted by the Armed Forces of Malta, executed a search warrant at the Ħamrun residence, where they discovered the heroin stashed in plastic bags.
“We’re grateful for the information received from the public,” said a spokesperson for the Malta Police Force. “This seizure is a testament to our commitment to keeping our communities safe and free from illegal drugs.”
Street Value and Sentencing
The seized heroin, weighing approximately 130 grams, has an estimated street value of €13,000, based on current market prices. If convicted, the arrested man faces a potential sentence of up to 26 years in prison, as per Malta’s Drug Dependence (Treatment Not Imprisonment) Act.
This latest bust comes as part of an ongoing effort by local authorities to crack down on drug trafficking and distribution in Malta. In recent months, police have seized substantial quantities of heroin, cocaine, and cannabis, with several arrests made in connection with these operations.
While the investigation into this Ħamrun bust is still in its early stages, police have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests in the coming days.
