Heroin Haul: Man Arrested After €13,000 Stash Found in Ħamrun

In a quiet residential street off Triq San Pawl in Ħamrun, police made a startling discovery this week. Hidden away in a property, they found a stash of heroin with an estimated street value of €13,000. The find led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man, as the police continue to crack down on drug-related activities in Malta.

From Tip-Off to Arrest

The operation, codenamed ‘Xerxas’, began with a tip-off from the public. Acting on this information, the Drugs Unit of the Malta Police Force executed a search warrant at the Ħamrun property. There, they found 125 grams of heroin, ready for distribution. The seized drugs could have potentially caused harm to hundreds of users, given the street value and purity of the substance.

The arrested man, a resident of Ħamrun, was taken into custody and is currently being held pending further investigations. The police are not ruling out the possibility of more arrests in connection with this case.

Ħamrun: A Concerned Community

Ħamrun, a densely populated town just outside Valletta, has seen an increase in drug-related incidents in recent years. Residents have been vocal about their concerns, with many calling for stricter enforcement and community policing initiatives. The recent arrest has been welcomed by locals, who hope it sends a strong message to those involved in drug trafficking.

“We’ve had enough of this,” said Joe, a long-time Ħamrun resident. “We want our streets back. We want our children to grow up in a safe environment. This arrest is a step in the right direction, but there’s still a lot of work to be done.”

Police: No Let-Up in Drug Fight

Superintendent Mario Portelli, leading the Drugs Unit, reassured the public that the police are committed to tackling drug-related crime. “We’re not just seizing drugs,” he said. “We’re disrupting networks, targeting those who profit from others’ misery. Our message is clear: if you’re involved in drug trafficking, we will find you, and you will face the full force of the law.”

The police are urging anyone with information about drug-related activities to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the 119 number or the police’s online reporting system.
