Heroin Haul: Man Arrested in Ħamrun Drug Bust
Heroin Haul: Man Arrested After €13,000 Worth of Drugs Seized in Ħamrun
In a quiet residential street off Triq San Pawl in Ħamrun, police officers made a startling discovery this week. Hidden away in a property, they found a stash of heroin with an estimated street value of €13,000. The bust, part of an ongoing operation targeting drug trafficking in the area, led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man from Ħamrun.
The Ħamrun Connection
Ħamrun, a bustling town just outside Valletta, has long been a hub of activity. From the vibrant market stalls at Is-Suq Tal-Pajjiz to the historic Ħamrun Basilica, it’s a place where communities intersect. However, it’s also an area where police have been working tirelessly to combat drug-related crime. This latest seizure is a testament to their efforts.
“We’ve been seeing an increase in drug-related activity in Ħamrun,” says Inspector Joe Borg, a veteran of the Malta Police Force. “This operation is part of our ongoing commitment to making our streets safer. We’re sending a clear message: drug trafficking will not be tolerated in our communities.”
Unraveling the Operation
The arrest was the culmination of weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering. Police had been monitoring suspected drug activity in the area, leading them to the property where the heroin was found. The seizure included 65 grams of heroin, ready for distribution on the streets.
Superintendent Maria Camilleri, who led the operation, explains, “We’re not just seizing drugs; we’re disrupting networks. This arrest sends a strong signal to those involved in drug trafficking that we’re watching, and we’re coming for you.”
The arrested man is currently in custody, assisting police with their investigations. Further arrests are not being ruled out as police continue to unravel the network behind this operation.
