Heroin Haul: Man Arrested After €13,000 Stash Found in Ħamrun
In a quiet residential street off Triq San Pawl in Ħamrun, police made a significant drugs bust this week. A man was arrested after a substantial quantity of heroin, with a street value of over €13,000, was discovered in his possession.
Undercover Operation Leads to Arrest
Sources close to the investigation have revealed that the arrest was the result of an undercover operation by the Drugs Squad. The man, a 35-year-old Ħamrun resident, was taken into custody on Tuesday following a tip-off. A search of his property led to the discovery of the heroin, packaged and ready for distribution.
Community Reacts: “Not What We Expect in Ħamrun”
News of the arrest has through the close-knit community of Ħamrun. Many residents, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed their concern and surprise at the discovery. “Ħamrun is a peaceful place,” said one resident. “We don’t expect this kind of thing happening on our doorstep.”
The local council has since issued a statement, reassuring residents that they are working closely with the police to maintain the safety and security of the community. They have also encouraged anyone with information about drug-related activities to come forward.

Inspector Joseph Xuereb, leading the investigation, described the seizure as a significant blow to drug trafficking in Malta. “This operation sends a clear message to those involved in drug trafficking,” he said. “We are committed to disrupting their activities and bringing them to justice.”
The arrested man is currently being held in custody pending further investigations. Police have not yet released his name, pending a court appearance.
