Marsascala Cab Driver Testifies in Gang Rape Case

Court Hears Cab Driver’s Account in Marsascala Gang Rape Case

In the heart of Marsascala, a small fishing village turned bustling town, the local courtroom was filled with an unusual silence today. The reason? A cab driver was recounting a night that would change the lives of several young women and put Marsascala on the map for all the wrong reasons.

That Fateful Night in Marsascala

The driver, a man in his late forties with a weathered face and eyes that held a story, took the stand. He was there to recount the night of September 15, 2021, when he picked up a group of young men from Triq il-Kbira, Marsascala’s main street, around 11 PM. “I thought they were just lads out for a drink,” he testified, his voice steady yet laced with regret.

He didn’t know that these ‘lads’ would soon be accused of a crime that would shake Marsascala to its core – the gang rape of two young women, one of whom was found unconscious in a nearby alley, her dress torn and her body bruised.

One or Two Girls?

The driver’s testimony centered around a chilling exchange he had with the accused. When he asked if they wanted to pick up ‘one or two girls’ on their way, one of the accused replied, “We already have one, maybe we’ll get another.” The courtroom gasped, the weight of those words hanging heavy in the air.

The driver, visibly shaken, admitted he didn’t report the incident immediately. “I was scared,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “I have a family, a business. I didn’t want any trouble.” But he did report it eventually, his conscience pricking him until he could no longer stay silent.
