65 AFM Recruits Graduate in Style at Passing Out Parade

In a display of pride and camaraderie, 65 recruits of the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) marched with precision and poise at the Passing Out Parade held at the AFM’s Hal Far Barracks. The event marked the culmination of their rigorous 12-week basic training, transforming them into fully-fledged soldiers ready to serve their country.

From Civilians to Soldiers

Just three short months ago, these recruits were civilians from all walks of life, answering the call to serve their nation. They hail from various towns and villages across Malta and Gozo, bringing with them a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. Now, they stand united, donning the AFM’s distinctive blue berets and smart uniforms, ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.

For many, the journey was not an easy one. The grueling training regime pushed them to their physical and mental limits, testing their resolve and resilience. But as they marched in unison, the sense of accomplishment and pride was palpable, echoing through the barracks and the surrounding streets of Hal Far.

Skills for Life and Service

The training program, conducted by experienced AFM instructors, equipped the recruits with a wide array of skills. From combat training and weapons handling to first aid and navigation, these new soldiers have acquired a strong set of abilities that will not only serve them in their military career but also enrich their personal lives.

Among the recruits was 22-year-old Maria Grech from Birkirkara. She shared, “The training was tough, but it’s made me stronger, both physically and mentally. I’ve learned skills I never thought I could, and I’m proud to be part of the AFM family.”

A Force for Malta

The Passing Out Parade was attended by high-ranking AFM officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Andrew Scicluna. In his address, he commended the recruits for their dedication and hard work, emphasizing the crucial role they will play in protecting Malta’s sovereignty and interests.

As the recruits marched off the parade ground, they marked the beginning of their careers in the AFM. Their journey will take them to various locations across Malta and beyond, from the rugged landscapes of the Maltese islands to international peacekeeping missions. But for now, they stand tall, proud, and ready, a testament to Malta’s commitment to maintaining a strong and capable military force.
