Alkagesta Promotes Anthony Guida to Lead Biofuels Trading Desk
Malta’s Alkagesta Strengthens Biofuels Presence with New Appointment
In the heart of Malta’s bustling Msida, at the headquarters of Alkagesta, a significant shift is taking place. The local energy trading firm has promoted Anthony Guida to lead its Biofuels Trading Desk, a move that signals a renewed commitment to sustainable energy sources.
From Malta’s Streets to the Energy Sector
Anthony Guida, a familiar face in Malta’s energy sector, has been instrumental in Alkagesta’s growth. Born and raised in the Three Cities, Guida’s journey from the historic streets of Bormla to the helm of Alkagesta’s biofuels trading is a testament to Malta’s evolving energy scene. With a degree in Energy and Power Engineering from the University of Malta, Guida brings a wealth of local knowledge and technical expertise to his new role.
Alkagesta’s Biofuels Ambitions
Alkagesta, a subsidiary of the local energy giant Enemalta, has been at the forefront of Malta’s transition towards renewable energy. The company’s biofuels trading desk, under Guida’s leadership, will play a pivotal role in this transition. The desk will focus on trading biofuels like biodiesel and biojet fuel, reducing Malta’s reliance on fossil fuels and lowering its carbon footprint.
Guida’s appointment comes at a crucial time. Malta is committed to achieving a 10% share of energy from renewable sources by 2020. While the island nation has made significant strides in solar and wind energy, biofuels remain an untapped potential. Guida’s desk will explore opportunities to import biofuels, invest in local biofuel production, and facilitate biofuels trading within the Mediterranean region.
Alkagesta’s CEO, Ing. Frederick Azzopardi, expressed confidence in Guida’s appointment, stating, “Anthony’s deep understanding of Malta’s energy market and his passion for sustainable energy make him the ideal candidate to lead our biofuels trading desk. We are excited about the prospects this brings to our company and Malta’s energy future.”
