Gżira Burglaries: Three Suspects Remanded Over €18,000 Spree
In the heart of Gżira, a quiet residential area known for its picturesque views of the Marsamxett Harbour, a series of burglaries have left residents on edge. The police have since arrested three suspects, with €18,000 worth of stolen goods recovered.
Burglary Spree in Gżira
Over the past few weeks, residents along Triq San Ġorġ Preca and surrounding streets have been targeted. The burglars, taking advantage of empty homes during the day, managed to steal electronics, jewelry, and cash. The most recent incident occurred at a villa in Triq San Ġorġ Preca, where thieves made off with €5,000 worth of goods.
Police Action and Arrests
Following numerous complaints, the police launched an investigation, focusing on CCTV footage and witness statements. Their efforts paid off when they arrested three men, aged 25, 30, and 35, from Msida and Birkirkara. During a search of their properties, police recovered stolen items and cash totaling €18,000.
Inspector Joe Mifsud, leading the investigation, stated, “The arrests send a clear message that such crimes will not be tolerated. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”
Magistrate Dr. Charmaine Galea remanded the three suspects in custody for seven days, as investigations continue. The trio will be charged with burglary, theft, and conspiracy.
