Fire Guts Derelict Paceville Nightclub

Blaze Engulfs Former Nightclub in Paceville

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a fire broke out at the derelict former nightclub, ‘Club 19’, on St. George’s Road in Paceville, sending plumes of smoke into the night sky and causing concern among nearby residents.

Firefighters Battle the Blaze

The Malta Fire Service received a call at around 2:30 AM and swiftly dispatched several units to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found the abandoned club engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading rapidly due to the building’s dilapidated state. It took over three hours and the combined efforts of 25 firefighters to bring the blaze under control.

“The building was in a state of disrepair, which made our job more challenging,” said a spokesperson for the Malta Fire Service. “We had to ensure the safety of our personnel while battling the fire, as parts of the structure were unstable.”

Residents Evacuated as a Precaution

As a precaution, residents living in nearby apartments were temporarily evacuated while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. “We were woken up by the sound of sirens and saw the smoke coming from the old club,” said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “It was quite scary, but thankfully, the firefighters had everything under control.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but authorities suspect it may have been started deliberately. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police on 119.

This incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of derelict buildings in Paceville, with some residents calling for stricter enforcement of safety regulations.

“We’ve been saying for years that these abandoned buildings are a fire hazard and a safety risk,” said a spokesperson for the Paceville Residents’ Association. “We hope that this incident will finally prompt the authorities to take action.”
