Faith and Community: L-Imqadds Feast 2026

Faith in Action: A Day of Reflection and Celebration

Malta’s streets hummed with a different tune yesterday, as the annual L-Imqadds Feast took over the narrow alleys of Rabat. The scent of freshly baked ħobż biż-Żejt wafted through the air, mingling with the echoes of church hymns and the distant beat of traditional drums. It was a day that saw faith and community intertwine, as it does every year on the feast day of St. Paul’s Shipwreck.

Quotes That Resonated

Amidst the festivities, religious leaders shared their thoughts on the significance of the day. Archbishop Charles Scicluna, in his homily at the morning mass, reflected on the apostle Paul’s resilience in the face of adversity. “Like St. Paul, we too are called to face our storms with faith and courage,” he said, his words resonating with the congregation.

Father Mark Montebello, parish priest of Rabat, echoed similar sentiments during an interview with Hot Malta. “Today is a reminder that even in the darkest times, there’s always hope. That’s what St. Paul’s story teaches us,” he said, standing amidst the vibrant decorations that adorned the streets of his parish.

News from the Pulpit to the Streets

The day wasn’t just about spiritual reflection. It also saw several community initiatives taking centre stage. The local council, in collaboration with the parish, organised a blood donation drive, a testament to the feast’s theme of ‘giving back’. The drive saw an overwhelming response, with many residents queuing up to donate.

Meanwhile, the feast committee announced plans to restore the historic church bell, damaged in last year’s storm. The project, funded by donations from the community, is set to begin later this year. “It’s more than just a bell. It’s a symbol of our community’s resilience and unity,” said feast committee president, Mario Portelli.

As the sun set over Rabat, the streets came alive with the traditional fireworks display. The vibrant explosions against the night sky served as a fitting finale to a day that saw faith, community, and tradition intertwine. It was a day that, once again, underscored Malta’s unique blend of spirituality and festivity.
