Mqabba Breaks Fireworks Record with 90m Display

Imagine standing on Triq il-Kbira in Mqabba, the scent of gunpowder in the air, as a towering pillar of fire and light soars 90 metres into the night sky. This was the reality for thousands of spectators last weekend, as Mqabba’s fireworks enthusiasts claimed they’ve set a new record with their colossal display.

Shooting for the Stars

Organised by the Mqabba Local Council and the Mqabba Fireworks Committee, the spectacle was the culmination of months of planning and preparation. The team, led by experienced pyrotechnicians, aimed to break their own record set in 2019 with a display reaching 75 metres. This year, they’ve surpassed that mark by a significant 15 metres.

Crafting a Masterpiece

The secret to their success? A combination of advanced technology, meticulous planning, and a deep understanding of their craft. The team used state-of-the-art firing systems and high-quality fireworks sourced from renowned manufacturers. Each shell was individually programmed to explode at precise heights and intervals, creating a symphony of colour and light.

The display, themed ‘The Sky’s the Limit’, was a labour of love for the team. “We wanted to push the boundaries of what’s possible,” said committee member, Joe Xuereb. “We’re not just lighting fireworks, we’re telling a story. And this year, we wanted that story to reach new heights.”

Community Pride

For Mqabba residents, the fireworks display is more than just a spectacle. It’s a symbol of community pride and unity. “We come together to celebrate our village and our heritage,” said local resident, Maria Gatt. “It’s not just about the record; it’s about the sense of belonging and joy it brings to our community.”

The event also attracted thousands of visitors from across Malta and beyond. Many praised the organisers for their dedication and the stunning display. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” said tourist, Lisa Johnson. “The height, the colours, the sheer scale of it – it was incredible.”

As the last embers faded from the sky, the team was already . “We’ve set a new record, but we won’t rest on our laurels,” said Xuereb. “We’re always looking for ways to improve, to innovate, and to bring more joy to our community and visitors.”
