Xemxija’s Skyline: 30-Apartment Block with Six Rooftop Pools Proposed
Imagine standing at the edge of Xemxija’s rugged coastline, the Mediterranean sprawling out before you. Now, picture a 30-apartment block rising from this scenic spot, its rooftop bristling with six swimming pools. This isn’t a dream, but a reality Portelli Developments is proposing.
Xemxija’s Skyline Set for a Change
The plans, filed with the Planning Authority, envision a five-storey building on Triq San Pawl, Xemxija. The block, designed by ARP Architects, will boast 30 apartments, each with its own terrace. But it’s the rooftop that’s stealing the show, with six pools lined up like a string of pearls, offering residents a panoramic view of the sea.
More Than Just Apartments: A Community Hub
Portelli Developments isn’t just building apartments; they’re creating a community. The project includes communal spaces, a gym, and a retail area at ground level. The apartments themselves range from one to three bedrooms, catering to various needs. “We want to create a place where people can live, work, and play,” says a spokesperson for Portelli Developments.
Environmental Concerns and Pushback
While the project promises to transform Xemxija’s skyline, it’s not without its critics. Environmental groups have raised concerns about the building’s impact on the area’s rural character and the potential strain on local infrastructure. “We need to ensure that development is sustainable and respects the environment,” says a spokesperson for Din l-Art Ħelwa.
The Planning Authority is currently reviewing the application. If approved, construction could begin as early as next year, with completion expected within two years. The project, if realised, will certainly change the face of Xemxija, adding a new dimension to its rugged coastline.
