Gozitan Priest Marks 25 Years of Service at Ta’ Pinu
Ta’ Pinu’s Faithful Servant: A Quarter Century of Priesthood
Imagine, if you will, the sun dipping below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the rugged scene of Gozo. In the heart of this serene scene stands the Ta’ Pinu sanctuary, a beacon of faith for centuries. Today, we celebrate a quarter century of service by one of its most dedicated collaborators, Father Joseph Vella.
From Gozitan Hills to the Vatican
Father Vella’s journey is as much a part of Malta’s spiritual tapestry as the sanctuary he serves. Born and raised in the humble village of Għarb, nestled in the Gozitan hills, his path was set early. After completing his theological studies in Rome, he was ordained a priest in 1997, marking the beginning of a quarter-century of devotion.
His journey has taken him from the cobblestone streets of Rome to the hallowed halls of the Vatican, where he served as a diplomat. Yet, it’s his return to Ta’ Pinu that holds the most significance. “Ta’ Pinu is more than just a sanctuary,” he says, “It’s a symbol of our faith, our history, our identity.”
25 Years of Service: A Labor of Love
Father Vella’s 25 years of priesthood have been marked by an unwavering commitment to Ta’ Pinu and its pilgrims. He’s seen the sanctuary evolve, from its humble beginnings to the state-of-the-art complex it is today. Yet, his role has remained constant – to serve as a spiritual guide, a confidant, a beacon of hope.
His work is not confined to the sanctuary walls. He’s a familiar figure in the winding streets of Għarb, offering guidance, support, and a listening ear. “Priesthood is not just about leading services,” he says, “It’s about being present, being a part of people’s lives.”
Father Vella’s anniversary is not just a personal milestone, but a testament to the enduring spirit of Ta’ Pinu. It’s a reminder of the sanctuary’s role in our collective history, our faith, our identity. As we celebrate this quarter-century of service, we also celebrate Ta’ Pinu, and the unbreakable bond it shares with its people.
