Ħal Għaxaq’s Green Transformation: 25,000 sqm Park Underway
In the heart of Ħal Għaxaq, a small town in the Southern Region of Malta, a significant transformation is taking place. Bulldozers and excavators have given way to a vision of open green spaces, as works on a 25,000 square metre public park are underway. The project, set to be one of the largest open spaces in the region, is breathing new life into the town, promising a green oasis for residents and visitors alike.
From Farmland to Public Park
Until recently, the site was a sprawling farmland, a remnant of Malta’s rural past. Now, it’s being transformed into a modern public space, a testament to the island’s evolving urban scene. The project, spearheaded by the Ħal Għaxaq Local Council, is a bold step towards creating a sustainable and liveable community.
What to Expect: A Green Oasis in the Making
The park, once completed, will boast a variety of features designed to cater to different needs and interests. At its heart will be a large central square, perfect for community events and gatherings. Surrounding it will be expansive green areas, ideal for picnics, sports, and relaxation. A children’s play area and a senior citizens’ corner are also planned, ensuring that the park caters to all ages.
But the park’s pièce de résistance will be its extensive tree planting scheme. With over 200 trees set to be planted, the park will become a green lung in the heart of Ħal Għaxaq, providing much-needed shade and helping to combat urban heat island effects.
Community Engagement: Ħal Għaxaq’s Green Future
The project is not just about creating a physical space; it’s also about fostering a sense of community. The Ħal Għaxaq Local Council has been actively engaging with residents, seeking their input on the design and features of the park. This inclusive approach has not only ensured that the park caters to the community’s needs but has also generated a sense of ownership and pride among residents.
As works progress, the park is already becoming a talking point in Ħal Għaxaq. Residents are eagerly awaiting its completion, looking forward to the day when they can enjoy a leisurely stroll, a family picnic, or a community event in their very own green oasis.
