Malta’s Marvic Monreal Brings Opera Magic to Valletta
Malta’s Own Marvic Monreal Brings Opera Magic to Valletta
Imagine strolling along Republic Street, the heart of Valletta, on a balmy Maltese evening. Suddenly, the air fills with the enchanting melodies of opera, echoing through the historic streets. This isn’t a dream; it’s ‘Opera in the Capital’, a brainchild of Malta’s own operatic sensation, Marvic Monreal.
From Malta to the World Stage
Monreal, a proud product of Malta’s cultural scene, has graced international stages from the Royal Opera House in London to the Sydney Opera House. Now, she’s bringing her talent back home for a unique series of performances that blend the grandeur of opera with the intimacy of Malta’s historic streets.
Born and raised in Msida, Monreal’s love for opera was nurtured in Malta’s vibrant cultural scene. “Growing up, I was lucky to be surrounded by music,” she recalls. “From the Malta International Piano Festival to the Teatru Manoel, I’ve always felt inspired by the arts in Malta.”
Opera in the Capital: A Unique Experience
‘Opera in the Capital’ promises to be an unforgettable experience, merging the beauty of opera with the charm of Malta’s capital city. The series will see Monreal and her fellow performers take to various locations around Valletta, from the grandeur of St. George’s Square to the quaint charm of Strait Street.
But this isn’t just about the stunning backdrops. Monreal is committed to making opera accessible to everyone. “Opera can sometimes feel intimidating or exclusive,” she says. “I want to change that. I want people to feel they can enjoy opera, whether they’re opera enthusiasts or hearing it for the first time.”
To make this happen, Monreal is working closely with local cultural organizations and the Valletta Local Council. “We’re ensuring that the performances are accessible, with free and affordable ticket options,” she explains. “We also want to involve the local community, so we’re inviting schools and community groups to be part of the performances.”
So, mark your calendars for ‘Opera in the Capital’. It’s more than just a concert series; it’s a celebration of Malta’s cultural heritage and a testament to the power of art to bring people together.
