Marvic Monreal Brings International Opera Magic to Valletta
From Manila to Valletta: Marvic Monreal’s Homecoming Opera
Imagine the scene: a packed Manoel Theatre, the oldest working theatre in Europe, nestled in the heart of Valletta. The air is thick with anticipation as the audience waits for the curtains to rise. Tonight, they’re not here for a classical opera, but for something unique, something personal – a homecoming concert by Maltese tenor Marvic Monreal.
From Malta to the World Stage
Monreal, a product of the Malta School of Music and the University of Malta, has been making waves internationally. After honing his craft in Malta, he moved to the Philippines to join the Philippine Opera Company. His talent didn’t go unnoticed, leading him to perform in prestigious venues like the Sydney Opera House and the Royal Albert Hall.
Now, after years of performing abroad, Monreal is returning to his roots for ‘Opera in the Capital’, a special concert series organised by the Valletta 2018 Foundation. The series aims to bring world-class opera performances to the capital city, and who better to kickstart it than Malta’s own rising star?
An Evening of Emotions
Monreal promises an evening filled with emotions, taking the audience on a journey through some of the most beautiful arias in opera. From Puccini’s ‘Nessun dorma’ to Verdi’s ‘La donna è mobile’, each piece has been carefully selected to showcase his vocal range and connect with his Maltese audience.
“I’m excited to perform in front of a Maltese audience again,” Monreal says. “There’s something special about singing in your mother tongue, about connecting with people who understand your story, your journey.”
The concert, scheduled for the 28th of August at the Manoel Theatre, is expected to be a sell-out. Tickets are available online and at the theatre’s box office. Don’t miss this chance to witness Malta’s operatic prodigal son return home.
