Imagine, if you will, the bustling streets of Valletta, Malta’s capital city. The sun is setting, casting a warm glow over the historic buildings. Suddenly, the air is filled with the powerful, emotive notes of an opera. This is not a figment of your imagination, but a reality that will unfold this October as Maltese tenor Marvic Monreal returns home for ‘Opera in the Capital’.
Marvic Monreal: A Malta-born Opera Star
Born and raised in Malta, Marvic Monreal is no stranger to the local arts scene. His journey began at the Malta School of Music, where he honed his skills under the tutelage of renowned vocal coaches. After completing his studies, Monreal spread his wings, moving to the Philippines to pursue his dreams. Today, he stands as one of the most promising tenors in the Philippines, having performed in prestigious venues like the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Manila Hotel.
Opera in the Capital: A Homecoming Performance
This October, Monreal is set to captivate his home audience with ‘Opera in the Capital’. The event, organized by the Malta Arts Council, will see Monreal perform a selection of opera arias and Neapolitan songs, accompanied by a live orchestra. The venue? The iconic Pjazza Teatru Rjal, a symbol of Malta’s rich cultural heritage.
The performance is not just a homecoming for Monreal but also a testament to Malta’s growing opera scene. It’s a chance for locals to enjoy world-class opera right on their doorstep. “I’m thrilled to be performing in Valletta,” Monreal says, “It’s a city that holds so many memories for me, and I can’t wait to share my love for opera with my fellow Maltese.”
For those eager to attend, the event is scheduled for Saturday, October 15th, starting at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available online and at the Malta Arts Council office in Valletta. The event is free, but donations are welcome to support the Malta Arts Council’s future initiatives.
