Marvic Monreal Brings Opera Magic to Valletta
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta, a familiar face was seen strolling along Republic Street. Marvic Monreal, Malta’s opera sweetheart, was back home. The reason? To headline ‘Opera in the Capital’, a much-anticipated event that’s set to fill the air with melodies that transcend language barriers.
From Malta to the World, and Back
Monreal, a native of Żebbuġ, has been making waves in the international opera scene. From the prestigious La Scala in Milan to the Sydney Opera House, her powerful voice has echoed through some of the world’s most renowned stages. Yet, she’s never forgotten her roots. “Malta is where my heart is,” she told us, her eyes sparkling with affection for her homeland.
Opera in the Capital: A Night Under the Stars
‘Opera in the Capital’, organised by Teatru Manoel, promises an enchanting evening of opera arias and duets. The open-air venue, Pjazza Teatru Rjal, will transform into a magical setting where classical music meets the Mediterranean breeze. Monreal will be joined by fellow Maltese opera stars and a live orchestra, conducted by the talented Joseph Vella.
But this event is more than just a concert. It’s a celebration of Malta’s cultural heritage and a testament to the power of art to bring communities together. “Opera is not just for the elite,” Monreal believes. “It’s for everyone. It’s about emotion, about storytelling. And that’s something we can all relate to.”
Making Opera Accessible
To make opera more accessible, Teatru Manoel has kept the ticket prices affordable. There are also plans to stream the event live, ensuring that those who can’t make it to Valletta can still enjoy the performance. “We want everyone to experience the magic of opera,” says Teatru Manoel’s artistic director, Manuel Pirotta.
So, mark your calendars for the 27th of August. Dress up, grab a picnic blanket, and head down to Pjazza Teatru Rjal. Let Marvic Monreal’s voice transport you to a world of love, drama, and passion. And who knows? You might just find yourself falling in love with opera too.
