PN Adviser Linked to Controversial Ġgantija Heights Project
Political Irony: PN Adviser Linked to Ġgantija Heights Project
Imagine this: you’re walking down Triq San Ġwann in Xemxija, the sun is setting, and you’re admiring the Ġgantija Temples, a symbol of Malta’s ancient past. Now, picture a modern, high-rise apartment complex looming over those prehistoric giants. This is not a dystopian dream, but a reality that the Nationalist Party (PN) once vehemently opposed, now linked to one of their own.
From ‘Scandalous’ to Involvement
The Ġgantija Heights project, a 16-story residential complex, was initially met with outrage from the PN. In 2019, then Opposition Leader Adrian Delia described it as “scandalous” and “an eyesore” that would “destroy the beauty of the Ġgantija Temples.” Fast forward to 2023, and it’s been revealed that a PN political adviser, Dr. David Agius, is involved in the project as a director of the company developing it.
Dr. David Agius: From Critic to Director
Dr. Agius, a lawyer by profession, was appointed as a political adviser to PN leader Bernard Grech in 2021. His involvement in Ġgantija Heights, however, predates his political appointment. According to public records, he was appointed as a director of the project’s development company, Għajn Tuffieħa Developments Ltd., in 2019, the same year the PN was vocal in its opposition to the project.
When contacted for comment, Dr. Agius declined to discuss his role in the project, stating, “I am a director of the company, but I cannot comment further as this is a matter for the board of directors.” The PN also declined to comment on the matter.
