Ħal Għaxaq’s 25,000 sqm Green Oasis Takes Shape
Imagine a sprawling 25,000 square metre expanse of green, right in the heart of Ħal Għaxaq. That’s not a distant dream anymore. Works are currently underway to transform this vast tract of land into a public open space, set to become a jewel in the crown of Malta’s rural towns.
From Farmland to Green Oasis
Tucked away near Triq il-Kbira, the site has been earmarked for a major facelift by Ħal Għaxaq Local Council. The area, once a thriving farmland, has been lying idle for years, waiting for its moment to shine. Now, that moment has arrived.
“This project is not just about creating a park,” says Mayor of Ħal Għaxaq, Dr. John Paul Pace. “It’s about breathing new life into our community, providing a space where people can come together, relax, and enjoy nature.”
What’s in Store for Ħal Għaxaq?
The plans for the open space are ambitious. The council envisions a green lung that will include walking paths, picnic areas, a children’s play area, and even a small lake. There are also plans to install public art installations, further enriching the space.
But the project isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s also about sustainability. The council is planning to incorporate eco-friendly features, such as rainwater harvesting and solar panels, into the design. “We want this to be a space that not only looks beautiful but also respects and protects our environment,” explains Dr. Pace.
Transforming Ħal Għaxaq’s scene
The open space is set to become a major attraction for Ħal Għaxaq and its surrounding areas. It’s expected to boost tourism, encourage outdoor activities, and even increase property values in the vicinity. But more importantly, it’s about creating a space for the community to call their own.
“We’re not just building a park,” says Dr. Pace. “We’re creating a sense of community, a place where people can feel proud to call their own.”
Works are expected to be completed by the end of the year, with the open space set to be inaugurated in early 2023. So, mark your calendars, Ħal Għaxaq. Your new green oasis is on its way.
