Ħal Għaxaq’s 25,000sqm Open Space Transformation
In the heart of Ħal Għaxaq, a once-neglected plot of land is undergoing a remarkable transformation. The 25,000 square metre expanse, located just off Triq San Pawl, is being reimagined as a vibrant open space, set to become the town’s newest gem.
From Neglect to New Life
For years, this vast area lay forgotten, overgrown with weeds and littered with debris. But thanks to a €1.5 million investment from the Local Council, the site is now bustling with activity. Heavy machinery hums, and workers in hard hats can be seen clearing the land, preparing it for its new lease of life.
What’s in Store for Ħal Għaxaq?
The revamped space, set to open later this year, promises a mix of recreational and community facilities. Plans include a children’s play area, a skate park, a fitness zone, and even a small lake. The council has also earmarked space for a community garden, where residents can cultivate their own produce.
But the pièce de résistance is the proposed eco-park. This green lung will not only provide a tranquil space for relaxation but also serve as a learning hub for environmental education. The council plans to plant a variety of native species, creating a haven for local wildlife.
Community Engagement
Ħal Għaxaq’s residents are at the heart of this project. The local council has been actively seeking their input, hosting public consultations and surveys to ensure the space caters to the community’s needs. “We want this to be a space that everyone can enjoy and be proud of,” says Mayor Mario Fava.
With work progressing steadily, the council is on track to meet its end-of-year deadline. Once completed, this sprawling open space will not only enhance Ħal Għaxaq’s aesthetic but also foster a sense of community and pride among its residents.
