Ħal Għaxaq’s New 25,000 sqm Park: What You Need to Know

In the heart of Ħal Għaxaq, a town known for its rich history and rural charm, a new open space is taking shape. The 25,000 square metre plot, located just off Triq l-Imqabba, is undergoing a transformation that’s got locals buzzing with anticipation.

From Farmland to Public Park

The land, once a sprawling farm, is now being converted into a sprawling public park. The project, spearheaded by Ħal Għaxaq Local Council, is set to provide a much-needed green lung for the town’s growing population. “This is more than just a park,” says Mayor Mario Fava. “It’s a space where our community can come together, breathe, and enjoy nature.”

What’s in Store?

Plans for the space are ambitious. The park will boast walking paths, picnic areas, a children’s playground, and even a small lake. There are also plans for a community garden, where residents can grow their own produce. “We want this to be a space that caters to everyone,” explains Fava. “From families to seniors, from nature lovers to gardeners, there’s something here for everyone.”

But the park’s pièce de résistance is set to be its eco-friendly design. The project aims to be self-sustaining, with rainwater harvesting systems, solar panels, and even a small wind turbine planned. “We want to show that going green isn’t just good for the environment, it’s good for our community too,” says Fava.

Community Involvement

While the council is leading the project, they’re keen to involve the community every step of the way. Regular updates are posted on the council’s Facebook page, and there are plans for public consultations to gather feedback. “This is our park, our space,” says Fava. “We want it to reflect what our community wants and needs.”

Works are expected to be completed by the end of the year, with an official opening planned for early 2023. Until then, the council is inviting residents to follow the project’s progress and share their ideas and suggestions. “We can’t wait to see this space come to life,” says Fava. “And we can’t wait to see our community enjoy it.”
