Malta’s Green Revolution: New EV Charging Stations and Eco-Tours Unveiled
Imagine this: no more range anxiety for electric vehicle (EV) owners in Malta. That’s right, folks! Today, June 24, 2026, marks a significant day in our island’s journey towards sustainability. The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) and the Energy and Water Agency (EWA) have just announced the rollout of a massive network of new EV charging stations across Malta and Gozo.
Charging Up Malta and Gozo
In a nutshell, here’s what we’re looking at: 100 new charging stations spread out across the islands. That’s not all, folks! These aren’t your average charging stations. They’re fast, efficient, and equipped to handle all types of EVs. We’re talking about 30kW DC fast chargers that can juice up your EV in just a few hours. Plus, they’re smart too – you can monitor their status and even pay for your charge using an app.
But where exactly are these new charging stations popping up? Well, expect to see them along our major roads, in popular tourist spots, and even in our bustling towns and villages. For instance, we’ve got new stations planned for the bustling Republic Street in Valletta, the scenic Marsaxlokk harbour, and even the picturesque Xlendi Bay in Gozo. No more worrying about running out of juice on your way to the beach!
Eco-Tours: Exploring Malta’s Green Side
Now, here’s something exciting for our eco-conscious tourists and locals alike. Today also saw the launch of Malta’s first-ever network of eco-tours. These tours, organised by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) in collaboration with local environmental NGOs, will take visitors on a journey through Malta’s most beautiful and sustainable spots.
From exploring the lush woods of Buskett Gardens to discovering the hidden gems of the Dingli Cliffs, these tours promise an up-close and personal experience with Malta’s natural wonders. And the best part? They’re all powered by renewable energy, with electric minibuses ferrying tourists around. Talk about leaving only footprints and taking only memories!
