Flames Lick Marfa Road: Truck Fire Causes Traffic Chaos

Smoke billowed into the sky, and the acrid smell of burning rubber filled the air as a truck caught fire while driving along Marfa Road yesterday afternoon. The blaze, which started around 2 pm, caused traffic chaos and had motorists rerouted for hours.

Firefighters Battle Blaze

The Malta Fire Service swiftly responded to the emergency, deploying three tenders and a rescue vehicle to the scene. Firefighters battled the intense flames, managing to extinguish the fire after approximately 45 minutes. No injuries were reported, but the truck was completely destroyed.

Traffic Nightmare and Local Impact

The fire, which occurred near the junction with Triq l-Imqabba, caused significant traffic congestion, with motorists advised to avoid the area. Residents of nearby streets, such as Triq San Ġużepp, reported seeing thick smoke and feeling the heat from the blaze. Local businesses also felt the impact, with some customers unable to reach their premises due to the road closure.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. The Malta Police Force has urged anyone with information to come forward.
