Truck Fire Causes Marfa Road Traffic Chaos
Flames Lick Marfa Road: Truck Inferno Causes Traffic Chaos
Drivers on Marfa Road were met with an unexpected spectacle yesterday afternoon as a truck, laden with cargo, went up in flames, causing traffic chaos and a cloud of smoke visible from miles away.
Firefighters Battle Blaze
The Malta Fire Rescue Service received a call at around 2 PM, dispatching units from nearby stations to tackle the blaze. Upon arrival, firefighters found the truck engulfed in flames, with the intense heat threatening to spread to nearby vehicles. It took them over an hour to bring the fire under control and extinguish the blaze completely.
“We received numerous calls from concerned residents and motorists,” said a spokesperson for the MFRS. “Our crews worked swiftly and efficiently to contain the fire and prevent any further spread.”
Traffic Nightmare and Near-Misses
The incident caused major traffic disruptions, with Marfa Road closed in both directions for several hours. Motorists were advised to avoid the area, with many taking to social media to express their frustration at the delays. Some reported near-misses as they navigated the smoky conditions.
“I was driving home from work and suddenly there was this massive cloud of smoke,” said one driver, who wished to remain anonymous. “I could barely see the road, and it was scary not knowing what was ahead.”
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with authorities examining the truck’s remains and interviewing the driver. Initial reports suggest a mechanical fault may have been the cause. The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was treated at the scene and taken to Mater Dei Hospital for further checks.
