Truck Inferno on Marfa Road Causes Traffic Chaos
Smoke and Flames: Truck Inferno on Marfa Road
Drivers on Marfa Road were met with an unexpected spectacle on Tuesday afternoon as a truck, laden with construction materials, went up in flames, causing traffic chaos and a plume of smoke visible from nearby St. Julian’s.
Firefighters Battle Blaze
The Malta Fire Authority (MFA) received a call at around 2 PM, dispatching three tenders and a rescue vehicle to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found the truck engulfed in flames, with the blaze threatening to spread to nearby vehicles and buildings. It took them over an hour to bring the fire under control and extinguish the smoldering wreckage.
Traffic Nightmare and Near Misses
Marfa Road was reduced to a single lane as emergency services worked to contain the fire, leading to long tailbacks stretching back towards Spinola Road. Commuters and residents were advised to avoid the area, with some reporting near misses as panicked drivers attempted to navigate the congestion. “I was just coming home from work when I saw the smoke,” said one resident. “It was like something out of a movie.”
Luckily, no injuries were reported, but the incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers on our roads. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
As for the truck, it was a total loss, with the charred remains awaiting removal by a specialist team. The incident has also raised questions about the storage and transportation of flammable materials, with some calling for stricter regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
