Gozo Museum’s Colossal History Book Unveiled
Unrolling History: Gozo Museum’s Colossal Book
Imagine a book so large, it’s five metres long. Now, picture it’s not a coffee table book, but a meticulously crafted record of Gozo’s history. This is not a fantasy, but a reality unfolding at the Gozo Museum in Victoria. The island’s cultural hub has just published a tome that’s as impressive in size as it is in content.
From Stone Age to Present Day
The mammoth book, titled ‘Gozo: A Historical Journey’, spans over 500,000 words and covers the island’s history from the Stone Age right up to the present day. It’s a labour of love, a decade in the making, by local historian and museum curator, Dr. Anthony Pace. “It was a daunting task,” he admits, “but every page is a testament to our unique heritage.”
Local Treasures and Global Significance
The book is not just a collection of facts and figures. It’s a treasure trove of local stories, anecdotes, and photographs that bring Gozo’s past to life. From the ancient temples of Ggantija to the modern-day 3D mapping of the Azure Window, every page is a journey through time. But it’s not just about Gozo. This book underscores the island’s global significance, from its role in the Knights’ Hospitaller rule to its strategic importance during World War II.
But why the unusual size? “We wanted something tangible, something that would stand out,” explains Dr. Pace. “A book this size is a statement. It’s a statement about our history, our culture, and our collective memory.”
You can find ‘Gozo: A Historical Journey’ at the Gozo Museum in Victoria. It’s a sight to behold, and a read that’s well worth your time. It’s more than just a book; it’s a piece of Gozo’s history, unrolling before your eyes.
