Truck Fire on Marfa Road Causes Traffic Chaos
Smoke and Flames: Truck Inferno on Marfa Road
Drivers on Marfa Road did a double-take yesterday afternoon as a truck transformed into a roaring inferno right before their eyes. The blaze, which started around 3 PM, sent plumes of black smoke into the sky, visible even from nearby Msida and Birkirkara.
Quick Response from Fire Services
The Malta Fire Services were swift to respond, arriving at the scene within minutes. They managed to extinguish the fire before it could spread to nearby vehicles or properties. No injuries were reported, but the truck was completely gutted.
Cause of the Fire and Traffic Disruption
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest it might have been an electrical fault. The incident led to temporary traffic disruption, with Marfa Road partially closed for several hours. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes via Triq San Giljan and Triq L-Imqabba.
This isn’t the first time Marfa Road has witnessed such an incident. In 2018, a car caught fire near the same spot, highlighting the need for increased safety measures along this stretch.
“I’ve been driving this route for years, and I’ve seen a few fires,” said Joe, a local taxi driver. “The traffic here can get heavy, and with all these vehicles, it’s a recipe for disaster if something like this happens.”
Malta’s Transport Minister, Ian Borg, has promised to look into the matter, stating, “We take such incidents seriously. We’ll be reviewing the safety measures along Marfa Road to ensure such incidents are minimized in the future.”
