Delicata Wine Festival Returns to Il-Birgu in August

Imagine this: the sun dipping low over the Grand Harbour, painting the Three Cities in hues of gold and crimson. The air is filled with the hum of excited chatter and the clinking of glasses. Welcome to the Delicata Wine Festival, Malta’s most anticipated wine event, returning this August to the historic Il-Birgu.

Sipping Through History

Birgu, or Vittoriosa as it’s known by the Italians, is no stranger to festivals. This fortified city, one of Malta’s oldest, has seen its fair share of celebrations. But the Delicata Wine Festival is something special. It’s a celebration of Malta’s rich wine heritage, a tradition that dates back to the Knights of St. John, who brought vine cuttings from their homeland.

Today, Malta’s wine industry is thriving, with local wineries producing award-winning wines. And at the heart of it all is Delicata, Malta’s leading wine producer. This year, they’re rolling out the barrel for the 11th edition of their annual wine festival.

What to Expect

From August 26th to 28th, Il-Birgu will transform into a wine lover’s paradise. Here’s what you can expect:

    • Wine Tasting: Over 50 local and international wines will be on offer. From crisp whites to full-bodied reds, there’s something for every palate.
    • Food Pairing: No wine festival is complete without food. Local restaurants will be serving up a storm, offering dishes that complement the wines perfectly.
    • Live Entertainment: Expect live music and performances throughout the weekend. It’s not just about the wine, after all!
    • Wine Workshops: For those who want to learn more about wine, there will be workshops led by industry experts.

Getting Involved

Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just curious to try something new, the Delicata Wine Festival is a must-visit event. Tickets are €10 and include a wine glass and a book of tokens. Kids under 12 enter for free.

So, mark your calendars, gather your friends, and get ready to raise a glass (or two) to Malta’s wine heritage. Cheers!
