Żebbuġ Mdina Road Crash: Driver Fights for Life

Emergency services rushed to the Żebbuġ Mdina Road late Tuesday evening, following a severe road traffic accident that left a local driver critically injured. The crash, which involved two vehicles, occurred near the St. Joseph Church, a stone’s throw from the iconic Mdina Gate.

Rescue and Aftermath

The Malta Police and Civil Protection Department arrived at the scene promptly, finding the driver of a white Ford Fiesta trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters worked diligently to extricate the driver, who was then transported to Mater Dei Hospital in an ambulance, accompanied by an Advanced Paramedic.

Witnesses reported a chaotic scene, with traffic backed up along the Żebbuġ Mdina Road and Triq San Pawl for hours. The other vehicle, a grey Renault Clio, sustained significant damage but the driver was able to exit the vehicle unaided, though they were visibly shaken.

Investigation Underway

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. However, early reports suggest that the Ford Fiesta may have crossed into the path of the oncoming Renault Clio. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety. Malta’s roads can be treacherous, especially in areas like Żebbuġ and Mdina, which see a high volume of both local and tourist traffic.

As the investigation continues, our thoughts are with the injured driver and their family. We wish them a swift and full recovery.
