Gżira Scaffolding Collapse: Cars Damaged, No Injuries Reported
Imagine this: You’re driving down Triq it-Torri in Gżira, a street you’ve navigated countless times. Suddenly, the world around you seems to slow down as a towering scaffold, like a metal giant, comes crashing down mere metres ahead of your car. This wasn’t just any ordinary day in Gżira. This was the day a terrifying scene unfolded, leaving residents shaken and cars damaged.
Scaffolding Collapse in Broad Daylight
The incident occurred on a sunny Tuesday afternoon, around 2 PM. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the scaffolding, which had been erected for ongoing construction work, collapsing without warning. The structure, stretching across the width of the street, came crashing down like a house of cards, blocking traffic and causing panic among drivers and pedestrians.
Cars Damaged, No Injuries Reported
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but several cars parked along the street were not as lucky. The force of the collapse left them dented and scratched, their owners left to deal with the aftermath. Among them was Maria, a long-time Gżira resident who had parked her car just minutes before the incident. “I was inside my house when I heard this loud crash,” she said, “I ran out to see my car completely blocked by the scaffolding. I can’t believe no one was hurt.”
Residents Demand Answers, Safety Assurances
In the wake of the incident, residents have been vocal about their concerns. They’re demanding answers from the construction company and assurances that such an incident won’t happen again. “We’ve had scaffolding up here for months,” said one resident, “We’ve always been a bit nervous, but we never thought something like this could happen in broad daylight.”
The Malta Developers Association has since issued a statement, expressing their concern and assuring the public that they are working with the relevant authorities to ensure such incidents do not recur. “We take this matter very seriously,” they said, “The safety of the public is our top priority.”
