Mosta’s Traffic Nightmare Eases with New Bypass
Traffic Woes Ease as New Bypass Opens in Mosta
Mosta residents and commuters alike breathed a collective sigh of relief today as the long-awaited Triq l-Imqades bypass finally opened to traffic. The new road, a joint project between the Maltese government and the European Union, promises to significantly reduce congestion along the bustling Triq l-Imqades, a major thoroughfare connecting Mosta to other towns in the central region.
New Bypass: A breakthrough for Mosta?
The new bypass, stretching 2.5 kilometers from the Triq l-Imqades roundabout near Pjazza San Gorg to the Tal-Qroqq junction, is expected to divert a substantial amount of traffic away from the town center. This should not only ease traffic flow but also reduce noise and air pollution levels in the heart of Mosta.
Local councilor, Joseph Xuereb, expressed his optimism about the new development. “This bypass is a dream come true for us. We’ve been campaigning for it for years. It’s going to make a real difference to our quality of life in Mosta,” he said, standing by the newly opened road.
More Than Just a Road: The Bypass’s Broader Impact
The bypass is more than just a new road; it’s a symbol of the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and quality of life in Malta’s towns. The project, which began in 2022, has created hundreds of jobs and injected significant funds into the local economy.
the bypass is part of a larger plan to promote sustainable transport in Malta. The new road includes dedicated cycle lanes and pedestrian paths, encouraging more people to leave their cars at home and commute by bike or on foot.
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications, Ian Borg, echoed this sentiment. “This bypass is not just about easing traffic; it’s about creating a more sustainable, liveable Malta. We’re investing in our towns and our people, and we’re doing it in a way that’s good for the environment too,” he said.
