Malta Welcomes Four New Parish Priests & Seminary Vice-Rector
New Faces of Faith: Meet Malta’s Four New Parish Priests and Seminary Vice-Rector
In the heart of Rabat, the ancient capital of Malta, the Cathedral of St. John stands as a testament to the island’s rich religious heritage. This week, the Catholic Church in Malta welcomed four new parish priests, their robes a stark contrast to the bustling streets of this UNESCO World Heritage site. The appointments, announced by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna, mark a new chapter in the spiritual life of local communities.
Familiar Faces, New Parishes
Among the new appointees are some familiar faces in Malta’s ecclesiastical scene. Fr. Mark Sultana, known for his pastoral work in the parish of St. Joseph in Msida, will now serve as parish priest in the historic parish of St. Paul’s in Rabat. Fr. Sultana, a respected figure in Maltese Catholic circles, brings with him a wealth of experience in youth ministry and spiritual formation.
Fr. David Muscat, another well-known figure, will take the helm at the parish of St. Mary in Birkirkara. Fr. Muscat, who has served as the parish’s vice-rector, is known for his engaging homilies and his commitment to social outreach programs. His appointment is seen as a vote of confidence in his ability to continue the good work started by his predecessor.
Two other priests, Fr. Mario Attard and Fr. Joseph Farrugia, have also been appointed as parish priests. Fr. Attard will serve in the parish of St. Helen in Birkirkara, while Fr. Farrugia will take up his new role in the parish of St. Augustine in Zebbug. Both priests bring with them a deep sense of faith and a commitment to community service.
A New Vice-Rector for the Seminary
In addition to the new parish appointments, the Archdiocese of Malta has also announced the appointment of a new vice-rector for the seminary. Fr. Joseph Galea will take up this role, succeeding Fr. Charles Gauci who has served in this position for the past five years. Fr. Galea, a respected theologian and educator, brings with him a wealth of experience in formation and spiritual direction.
Speaking to Hot Malta, Archbishop Scicluna expressed his confidence in the new appointees. “These priests are not just new faces, but they bring with them a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to our faith. I am confident that they will serve our parishes and our communities with dedication and love,” he said.
For the new priests, the appointments mark a new chapter in their ministry. “I am honored to have been appointed as parish priest in Rabat,” said Fr. Sultana. “I look forward to serving the people of this historic parish and to working together with them to build a vibrant and faith-filled community.”
As the new priests settle into their roles, the people of Malta look forward to a renewed sense of spiritual energy and commitment. The appointments also serve as a reminder of the important role that the Catholic Church continues to play in the life of the Maltese people.
