Malta’s Green Revolution: New EV Charging Stations and Solar Farm Unveiled

Imagine this: no more range anxiety for electric vehicle (EV) drivers in Malta. Today, June 28, 2026, marked a significant step towards that reality with the announcement of a new network of EV charging stations and a major solar farm project.

Revving Up EV Adoption: Charging Stations Galore

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) revealed plans to install over 500 new EV charging points across the island. These aren’t just your average charging stations; they’re fast-charging points, capable of juicing up your EV in under 30 minutes. Here’s the kicker: they’re set to be installed at strategic locations, including popular spots like Paceville, Sliema, and even the Three Cities.

But that’s not all. The government has also earmarked €10 million to incentivize the purchase of EVs. With these initiatives, Malta is set to become the EV hub of the Mediterranean, making our tiny island a leader in sustainable transportation.

Harnessing the Sun: A Solar Farm for Żurrieq

In other green news, the Malta Corporation for Solar Energy (MCSE) announced plans to build a massive solar farm in Żurrieq. This 100-megawatt project will be one of the largest in the Mediterranean, providing clean energy to power over 25,000 homes. The farm is set to be completed by 2028, with construction beginning next year.

But here’s where it gets interesting. The MCSE isn’t just building a solar farm; they’re creating a solar farm with a twist. The panels will be designed to double as a public park, complete with walking paths and picnic areas. Talk about a win-win situation!
