Malta’s Green Revolution: New EV Charging Stations & Eco-Tours Unveiled
Imagine this: no more fuel stops on your way from Bugibba to Gozo. This could soon be a reality as the Maltese government announced a significant boost to electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and eco-tourism initiatives on June 28, 2026.
Revolutionising Road Trips: EV Charging Stations
In a bid to make Malta a greener island, Transport Malta revealed plans to install 50 new EV charging stations across the country. These aren’t your average charging points; they’re fast-charging stations, capable of juicing up your EV in just 30 minutes. The best part? They’re strategically located along major routes, making long-distance travel a breeze. Expect to see these at popular pit stops like the Mgarr ix-Xini junction and the Ta’ Qali National Park.
But that’s not all. The government also announced plans to convert all public transport buses to electric by 2030. This means cleaner air and quieter streets for everyone. “It’s not just about reducing our carbon footprint,” said Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Planning, Ian Borg. “It’s about creating a healthier, more sustainable future for our children.”
Eco-Tours: Exploring Malta’s Wild Side
While we’re talking about sustainability, let’s not forget the new eco-tourism initiatives. Malta Public Transport Ltd (MPTL) launched a series of eco-friendly tours, encouraging visitors to explore Malta’s natural beauty in a more responsible way. The tours, which start from the Valletta Waterfront, include guided walks through the Dingli Cliffs and boat trips to the unspoiled isle of Filfla.
“We want to showcase Malta’s unique biodiversity and cultural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism,” said MPTL CEO, Alexei Dingli. “These tours are just the beginning. We’re planning more nature-focused experiences across the Maltese islands.”
So, are you ready to embrace the green revolution? Whether you’re a resident or a visitor, there’s no denying that these announcements are set to change the way we travel and explore our beautiful islands.
