Accident Details
The incident occurred around 7:30 PM on Triq San Pawl in Msida, a bustling street known for its busy traffic and nearby shopping centre. Witnesses reported seeing the man, a local resident, losing control of his motorcycle and crashing to the ground. His bike, a sleek black Yamaha YZF-R6, skidded several metres before coming to a halt.
Rescue and Hospitalisation
Paramedics from the Maltese Civil Protection Department arrived swiftly, stabilising the victim’s condition before transporting him to Mater Dei Hospital. The man, who was conscious but in considerable pain, was later reported to have sustained serious injuries, including a suspected broken leg and possible internal injuries.
Road Safety Concerns
This incident has once again raised concerns about road safety in Malta, particularly for motorcyclists who often share the road with heavy traffic and pedestrians. According to the Malta Police, this is the third such incident in Msida this year, highlighting the need for increased safety measures and awareness campaigns.
Hot Malta reached out to the Malta Road Safety Council, who echoed these concerns. “We urge all road users to be more cautious, especially during peak hours,” said a spokesperson. “Motorcyclists should always wear protective gear, and drivers should be more aware of their presence on the road.”
As the investigation into the cause of the accident continues, our thoughts are with the victim and his family. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope that this incident serves as a reminder for us all to prioritise safety on our roads.
