Motorcyclist Hospitalised After St. Julian’s Crash

Rider Down: Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in St. Julian’s

Emergency services rushed to the aid of a motorcyclist who was found lying unconscious on the pavement in the heart of St. Julian’s yesterday afternoon. The incident, which occurred near the popular Spinola Bay, left the rider with serious injuries and hospitalised, according to sources close to the situation.

Witnesses Recall the Scene

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the motorcycle, a sleek black Ducati, skidding to a halt near the bustling Spinola Restaurant. “I heard this loud noise, like metal scraping against the road,” said Maria, a local resident who wished to remain anonymous. “When I looked out, I saw the rider on the ground. It was quite a shock.”

Rescue and Aftermath

Paramedics from the Maltese Civil Protection Department arrived on the scene within minutes, stabilising the rider before transporting him to Mater Dei Hospital. The motorcycle was later removed from the scene by a tow truck, leaving behind a patch of oil on the road that was quickly cleaned up by local council workers.

According to police reports, the rider, a 35-year-old man from Birkirkara, lost control of his motorcycle while attempting to navigate a sharp turn. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but speed is believed to be a factor.

Safety Concerns and Prevention

This incident has once again raised concerns about motorcycle safety in Malta, particularly in urban areas like St. Julian’s where traffic can be heavy and unpredictable. Local motorcycle clubs have been advocating for better road infrastructure and stricter enforcement of traffic laws to improve rider safety.

“We need more awareness campaigns and better enforcement,” said Tony, a spokesperson for the Malta Motorcycle Club. “Riders need to take responsibility too, by wearing proper safety gear and following the rules of the road.”
