SCJ Children’s Choir to Delight with Annual Concert in Valletta

Imagine the joyous sound of children’s voices filling the historic St. John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. That’s exactly what’s in store for you this Saturday evening, as the SCJ Children’s Choir presents its annual concert. But who are these young talents, and what can we expect from their performance?

Meet the SCJ Children’s Choir

The SCJ Children’s Choir is a project of the St. Catherine’s School in Żebbuġ, led by the dedicated and passionate teacher, Maria Grech. The choir is made up of around 40 children aged between 7 and 11, who hail from various schools around Malta. Their love for music and singing has brought them together, and under Maria’s guidance, they’ve been honing their talents since September.

Maria tells us, “It’s been an incredible journey so far. The children’s enthusiasm and dedication are truly inspiring. We’ve been working hard to prepare a varied repertoire that will appeal to all ages.”

A Night of Music Under the Stars

The annual concert, titled ‘Under the Stars’, promises a delightful mix of classical, traditional Maltese, and contemporary pieces. The children will be accompanied by a live orchestra, adding a touch of grandeur to the evening. Some of the highlights include ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’, ‘Amazing Grace’, and a medley of songs from Disney’s ‘Frozen’.

The concert will take place in the beautiful setting of the Lower Barrakka Gardens in Valletta. The gardens, with their stunning views of the Grand Harbour, provide the perfect backdrop for an evening of music under the stars. The event is free and open to the public, so bring along your family and friends to enjoy the performance.

More Than Just a Concert

For the children involved, this concert is more than just a performance. It’s an opportunity to showcase their talents, build confidence, and make new friends. Maria explains, “The choir provides a safe and nurturing environment where children can express themselves, learn teamwork, and foster a love for music. We’re not just teaching them to sing; we’re helping them grow as individuals.”

the concert serves as a reminder of the importance of arts education in our schools. It’s a chance to celebrate the creativity and talent of our children, and to encourage their continued growth in the arts.

So, mark your calendars for this Saturday, 25th March, at 7:30 PM. Head down to the Lower Barrakka Gardens in Valletta for a night of beautiful music, stunning views, and a whole lot of heart. It’s an event not to be missed!
