Malta: Rabat’s Search for Missing Teen Maria

In the heart of Rabat, where the scent of fresh bread from the local bakery usually fills the air, a sense of unease has settled. For over six weeks, the quiet town square has been missing its most vibrant resident, 16-year-old Maria Azzopardi. Her family, friends, and the close-knit community are desperate for any information that could lead to her safe return.

Maria’s Last Known Whereabouts

Maria was last seen on the evening of February 14th, near her home on Triq San Pawl in Rabat. She had stepped out to meet a friend but never returned. Her phone, which she always carried with her, was found switched off the next day, discarded near the ancient Roman Villa in the town’s outskirts. This discovery has left her loved ones with more questions than answers.

Community Rallies Around the Azzopardi Family

The tight-knit community of Rabat has come together to support the Azzopardi family in their time of need. Posters bearing Maria’s smiling face and the words “Please Help Find Maria” adorn walls and shop windows throughout the town. Volunteers have been conducting daily searches, combing through nearby fields, parks, and even the ancient catacombs, hoping for a clue that could lead them to Maria.

Father George Azzopardi, his voice heavy with emotion, appeals to anyone with information to come forward. “Maria is our world. She’s a bright, lively girl with her whole life ahead of her. We just want her to come home.”

Police Investigation and Public Appeal

Malta Police have been investigating Maria’s disappearance tirelessly, treating it as a high-priority case. They have interviewed friends, family, and potential witnesses, and have even brought in specialist search dogs to assist in the hunt for clues. Despite their best efforts, the case remains unsolved, and time is running out.

Superintendent Joseph Muscat, leading the investigation, urges the public to remain vigilant. “We need the public’s help. If you saw anything unusual in Rabat on the night of February 14th, or have any information, no matter how small, please come forward.”

**Hotline numbers have been set up for anyone with information: +356 2124 2000 or +356 2124 2001. You can also contact the police via their social media pages or by sending an email to missingpersons@gov.mt.

As the search for Maria enters its seventh week, hope remains undeterred. The community of Rabat, and indeed all of Malta, stands united in their desire to see Maria safely returned home.
