Rider in Critical Condition After St. Julian’s Crash

Emergency services rushed to St. Julian’s on Tuesday evening following a motorcycle accident that left a man in critical condition. The incident, which occurred around 7:30 PM on Triq San Ġorġ, brought traffic to a standstill as authorities worked to secure the scene.

What Happened?

The 35-year-old motorcyclist, identified only as C.J. by police, was traveling along the bustling street when he lost control of his bike near the popular Spinola Bay. Witnesses reported seeing the motorcycle swerve before crashing onto the pavement, with the rider thrown several meters from the impact.

Rescue and Aftermath

Paramedics from the Malta Civil Protection Department arrived swiftly, treating the injured man at the scene before transporting him to Mater Dei Hospital. As of Wednesday morning, his condition remains critical, with doctors working to stabilize his injuries.

Traffic along Triq San Ġorġ was diverted while police investigated the cause of the crash. Forensic experts collected evidence from the scene, including debris from the motorcycle and skid marks on the road. The investigation is ongoing, with police appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Safety Concerns and Prevention

This latest incident has once again raised concerns about road safety in Malta, particularly in urban areas like St. Julian’s. Local residents and businesses have long called for improved road infrastructure and stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent such accidents.

Motorcyclists, in particular, face higher risks on Maltese roads. According to the National Statistics Office, motorcycle accidents accounted for 16% of all road traffic injuries in 2020. Experts urge riders to wear appropriate protective gear, follow traffic rules, and avoid speeding or reckless behavior.

In the meantime, the Malta Road Safety Council has launched a campaign encouraging drivers to ‘Share the Road’ with motorcyclists, reminding them to check blind spots and allow sufficient space when overtaking.
