Motorcyclist Hospitalised After St. Julian’s Crash

Biker Down: Emergency Services Rush to St. Julian’s After Motorcycle Accident

In the heart of St. Julian’s, a popular spot for tourists and locals alike, an alarming scene unfolded yesterday afternoon. A motorcyclist, speeding along the bustling Triq Għar id-Dud, suddenly lost control of his bike, sending him crashing onto the tarmac. The incident, which happened just metres away from the iconic Spinola Bay, left the man with serious injuries and sparked a swift response from emergency services.

Witnesses Describe the Scene

Eyewitnesses described the incident as happening in a matter of seconds. “I was sitting outside a café when I heard this loud screech,” said Maria, a local resident. “Before I knew it, the biker was on the ground, and his motorcycle was skidding across the road.” Other witnesses quickly sprang into action, rushing to the man’s aid while someone else called for an ambulance.

Emergency Services Arrive on the Scene

Within minutes, an ambulance from the Malta Civil Protection Department arrived, followed by a rapid response vehicle from the Malta Police. The biker was immediately attended to by paramedics, who stabilised his condition before transporting him to Mater Dei Hospital. His injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening. The police quickly cordoned off the area, causing temporary traffic congestion in the busy area.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. However, police have not ruled out speeding as a factor. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of excessive speed on Malta’s roads, particularly in urban areas like St. Julian’s, which are often crowded with pedestrians and other vehicles.

This is not the first such incident in the area. Last year, a similar accident near the Pjazza Tritoni roundabout left another motorcyclist with serious injuries. These incidents have led to calls for stricter enforcement of speed limits and improved road safety awareness among motorcyclists.

Hot Malta reached out to the Malta Police for comment, but they declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
