Rider Hospitalised After St. Julian’s Motorcycle Mishap

Emergency services rushed to St. Julian’s on Tuesday evening following a motorcycle accident that left a rider hospitalised. The incident occurred around 7:30 PM on Triq San Ġorġ, near the popular Spinola Bay, causing traffic chaos during the peak evening rush hour.

What Happened?

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the motorcyclist, a man in his late 30s, losing control of his bike and falling off. The motorcycle, a sleek black Yamaha YZF-R6, skidded across the road, narrowly missing several cars. The rider, however, wasn’t as fortunate. He hit the tarmac hard, suffering severe injuries before bystanders rushed to his aid.

Paramedics from the Malta Civil Protection Department arrived swiftly, stabilising the injured man before transporting him to Mater Dei Hospital. As of now, his condition is described as stable but serious. No other individuals were involved in the incident, but the crash did cause significant traffic delays in the area.

Local Reaction and Safety Concerns

Residents and tourists alike were shaken by the incident. “I’ve seen a few accidents here, but this one was bad,” said Mario, a local resident who witnessed the crash. “We need to do something about the speeding on this road. It’s a busy area, and people just don’t seem to care.”

Speeding has indeed been a long-standing concern in St. Julian’s, with residents and local councillors repeatedly calling for stricter enforcement. In response to the incident, St. Julian’s Mayor, Gino Portelli, stated, “We’ll be discussing this with the police and traffic authorities. Our priority is the safety of our residents and visitors.”

In the meantime, the Malta Police Force has reminded motorcyclists and all road users to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly, especially in busy areas like St. Julian’s.
