Motorcyclist in Critical Condition After Valletta Fall
Rider Down: Motorcyclist in Critical Condition After Valletta Incident
Emergency services rushed to Republic Street in Valletta yesterday afternoon following reports of a motorcyclist falling off his bike. The rider, a 35-year-old man, was found lying unconscious on the pavement, his motorcycle sprawled nearby.
Witnesses Describe the Scene
Eyewitnesses recounted the scene to Hot Malta. “I was walking down Republic Street when I heard this loud screech,” said Maria, a local shopkeeper. “I turned to see the motorcyclist lose control and fall off his bike. It happened so fast, but it was clear he was hurt bad.”
Another witness, who wished to remain anonymous, added, “I’ve seen a few accidents on that street, but this one was different. The rider didn’t have a helmet on, and he hit the ground hard. It’s a scary reminder of how dangerous it can be out there.”
Hospitalised and Critical
The motorcyclist was immediately attended to by paramedics and rushed to Mater Dei Hospital. As of now, he remains in critical but stable condition. Police are investigating the cause of the accident, with early reports suggesting speed may have been a factor.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks motorcyclists face on Malta’s roads. According to the Malta Police, there were 162 motorcycle accidents in 2020, resulting in 21 serious injuries and 2 fatalities.
Hot Malta reached out to the Malta Road Safety Council for comment. “We urge all motorcyclists to always wear a helmet and follow speed limits,” said a spokesperson. “Accidents like this are preventable, and we need to do everything we can to keep our roads safe.”
