Time Travelers Flock to Żepp
Time Travelers Flock to Żepp for the Unthinkable
MALTA – June 28, 2026. The sun beats down on the bustling streets of Żepp, a village in the heart of Malta, but it’s not the summer heat that’s drawing the crowds today. It’s time travel.
Witnessing History in the Making
Today marks a historic day for Malta and the world. The first ever public time machine, ‘Chronos’, has been set up in Żepp’s main square, Piazza San Gorg. The machine, created by local inventor Dr. Josef Xuereb, has been the talk of the town since its arrival last week. Today, it’s ready to send its first passengers back in time.
Dr. Xuereb, a Żepp native and physicist, has spent the last decade working on Chronos. “It’s been a long journey,” he says, wiping sweat from his brow. “But today, we make history. Literally.”
Back to the Future in Żepp
The queue stretches down Triq San Gorg, past the iconic Church of San Gorg, and around the corner onto Triq il-Kbira. People from all over the world have come to Żepp to experience what they’ve only seen in movies. Among them is Maria, a tourist from Italy. “I’ve always been fascinated by time travel,” she says. “I couldn’t miss this opportunity.”
Not everyone is excited, though. Some locals worry about the potential consequences. “What if they change something? What if they can’t come back?” asks Anna, a Żepp resident. These concerns are valid, but Dr. Xuereb assures everyone that Chronos is safe and tested. “We’ve sent objects back and forth without any issues,” he says.
As the clock strikes noon, the crowd falls silent. The countdown begins. 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Chronos hums to life, and the first time travelers step inside. The portal shimmers, and they’re gone. The crowd erupts in cheers.
