Canon Joe Cardona Marks 25 Years as Priest

Silver Jubilee: Canon Joe Cardona Celebrates 25 Years of Service

Standing in the heart of Mdina, the ancient walled city, one can’t help but feel the weight of history. Today, however, the air is filled with a different kind of significance. The grand St. Paul’s Cathedral, a stone’s throw from the iconic Vilhena Palace, is preparing to host a man who has dedicated his life to serving the community from this very place – Canon Joe Cardona.

From Seminarian to Canon

Canon Cardona’s journey began here in Malta, where he was born and raised. After completing his studies at the seminary in Rabat, he was ordained a priest on June 29, 1997, at the age of 27. Since then, he has been an integral part of the local church, serving in various parishes and roles, including his current position as the Cathedral Administrator.

A Quarter Century of Service

Twenty-five years is a milestone that deserves celebration. Canon Cardona’s silver jubilee will be marked with a solemn mass at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Saturday, June 25, at 6 pm. The mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna, with the concelebration of several priests who have shared Canon Cardona’s journey over the years.

But this celebration is not just about Canon Cardona. It’s about the community he has served, the lives he has touched, and the faith he has inspired. “It’s a celebration of the people I’ve served, the people who have supported me, and the people who have allowed me to be a part of their lives,” Canon Cardona says.

Over the years, Canon Cardona has been known for his dedication to the youth, his work with the sick and the elderly, and his commitment to social causes. He has been a beacon of hope and comfort to many, a testament to the power of faith and service.
