Canon Joe Cardona Marks Silver Jubilee
Silver Jubilee: Canon Joe Cardona Celebrates 25 Years of Service
In the heart of Rabat, the ancient capital of Malta, the grand St. Paul’s Cathedral was filled to the brim on a sunny Saturday morning. The air was thick with anticipation, not just for the solemn mass about to commence, but for the man who was to celebrate his 25th anniversary as a priest – Canon Joe Cardona.
From Rabat to Rome: A Journey of Faith
Born and raised in the quaint town of Rabat, Canon Cardona’s journey to the priesthood began at the young age of 18 when he entered the seminary. After years of study and spiritual growth, he was ordained a priest in 1996. His journey, however, was far from over. He went on to study in Rome, earning a doctorate in Canon Law, and later served as the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Malta.
A Quarter Century of Service
Twenty-five years in the priesthood is a significant milestone, and for Canon Cardona, it has been a quarter century of dedication, service, and love. From his early years as a parish priest in Msida to his current role as the Chancellor, he has touched countless lives. His work has been marked by his commitment to the community, his compassion, and his unwavering faith.
As the mass began, the cathedral echoed with the voices of the choir, the incense filled the air, and the congregation watched as Canon Cardona, surrounded by his fellow priests, processed down the aisle. The readings, the homily, the Eucharist – each part of the mass was a testament to his journey, his faith, and his service.
In his homily, Bishop Mario Grech reflected on Canon Cardona’s quarter century of service, “Today, we celebrate not just an anniversary, but a life dedicated to God and His people. Joe, your service has been a beacon of light, a testament to your faith, and a source of comfort to many.”
After the mass, the congregation spilled out onto the steps of the cathedral, the sun now high in the sky. Canon Cardona, surrounded by his family, friends, and parishioners, was all smiles. “It’s been a journey,” he said, “but it’s been a journey filled with love, with faith, and with purpose. And I’m grateful for every moment of it.”
