Malta Pledges €100,000 Aid for Venezuela Quake Victims

Malta Steps Up: €100,000 for Venezuela Quake Victims

In the heart of Valletta, at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, a decision was made that echoed far beyond our islands. Malta, known for its warmth and generosity, has pledged €100,000 in aid to the victims of the devastating twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela and neighbouring countries.

From the Grand Harbour to Lake Maracaibo

Malta’s Foreign Minister, Evarist Bartolo, announced the aid package, highlighting our commitment to supporting those in need, regardless of borders. The aid will be channelled through international humanitarian organisations, ensuring it reaches those most affected in Venezuela, Colombia, and Guyana.

This isn’t the first time Malta has reached out across the globe. Our small nation has a history of providing assistance in times of crisis, from the 2015 migrant crisis to the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. This time, our help is headed to the shores of Lake Maracaibo, where the quakes have left a trail of destruction.

Malta’s Humanitarian Tradition

Malta’s response is part of our long-standing tradition of humanitarian aid. Our strategic location in the Mediterranean has always made us a hub for assistance, from the days of the Order of St. John to today’s international aid organisations based here. This latest pledge is a testament to our commitment to the values of solidarity and compassion.

As Maltese citizens, we can take pride in our government’s decision. It’s a reminder that even in the face of our own challenges, we’re part of a global community. And as we look out over our Grand Harbour, we can reflect on the fact that our help is reaching across the world, from our islands to the shores of Lake Maracaibo.
